Vidyarambha is the first day of the child to start learning alphabet. This samsakara is done when the child is 3 to 4 years. This is an important event of the child’s life. It is a samsakara from the day which the child reads and write throughout his life. So Hindus celebrate the event with great enthusiasm. In this article we shall know more about Vidyarambha Samsakara. Significance of Vidyarambha Samsakara Vidya means education or learning, arambha means beginning. Thus it means beginning of education or learning. Vidya is the name of Saraswati, the goddess of learning. This is the first day when the child starts his/her first word in writing. It is actually righteous initiation of knowledge of the child. This samsakara is performed to develop the mind and intelligence of the child in a proper way. When the child is grown up, say 4 or 5 years, it is time for him to learn about life. At this instance the child is just like sponge. He can absorb everything that is taught to him. The main learning is, however, the learning of alphabets. On this day the child is formally introduced to letters. When this commencement rite is done the child is considered as a candidate for reading and writing.
